Amelia Island, FL Indian Wedding by Akbar Sayed Photography

Good morning, Maharanis! It is a pleasure to with you and show you the beauty that surrounded Meera & Avinash's wedding festivities. On this first installment, we will take a look at their beautiful Hindu wedding ceremony. The fantastic rituals took place outdoors, specifically at the lovely gardens of The Ritz-Carlton Amelia Island, where a stunning mandap decorated with roses, orchids, and hydrangeas by Myar Decor, was built for our lovely duo to promise eternal love to each other! Of course, behind such a great event there was a planning pro team, Amina Events that delivered fully! For these celebrations! Meera, our Maharani, was so ravishing and looked so glamorous while walking down the aisle with a dazzling pink lehenga that stole a tear from us. For this event, She made the right choice by trusting her beauty needs to Glam by Richa who was a fantastic glam team. If you want to relive this phenomenal moment, you can visit our today's gallery thanks to the talent from Akbar Sayed Photography. And if this is not enough, you can enjoy their highlight film created by Regal Palette Studio that we are also featuring today, here. You will love it.

How did you meet your Groom and when did you know he was "the one"?
At first, we met briefly through mutual friends when he visited Marquette for our ISA cultural show. And of course I was captured by his handsomeness; but our story actually began 2 years after this, when we crossed paths again during a friend's birthday celebration. For whatever reason, everyone had cleared out for a while and Nash & I were the only two remaining in the room. So naturally, I took this opportunity to get to know him better and it was during this conversation that I recognized my counterpart. Little details, like our birthdays being one day apart, our challenges with having to be the younger sibling in our families of 4, and each of us considering ourselves "chameleons" because of our adaptability throughout life--he was so unique, honest, and refreshing. I had a feeling right away that this guy was going to be way more impactful in my life that I had initially thought.

Share the scoop on your Proposal Story!
Nash and I were taking a weekend roadtrip to Michigan on our own, without our dog. Saturday morning Nash had planned a wine tour at this amazing castle in Charlevoix. We were in the gift shop after the tour & the cashier recommended that we stroll by the pond area because we could go & feed birds. As we were walking over to the pond, I saw a man jogging with a dog and remember saying to Nash, "Man! We should have brought ours. We didn't we research the dog policy?"
He was just nervously laughing at this point and once we were close enough, I realized that the dog I had seen was our sweet boy Thor! And he was waiting on a bridge for us, surrounded by flowers, wine, and the cutest little sign. I was sobbing in tears at the disbelief of what was happening. Nash proposed on the bridge, and we got to capture these unbelievable moments with our pup right beside us.
We drove 6 hours back to Chicago right away, and Nash suggested that we stop by to wish our friends happy anniversary before heading home. Turns out it was a surprise party with every single one of my closest friends, even from out of town, along with our parents. The next day, he had planned a surprise brunch with one group of friends, a surprise lunch with another, followed by an evening with the rest of my immediate family members to bring the most surreal weekend to a close. I am still in awe that Nash was able to pull off 5+ surprises for me without me finding out.

Tell us how you went about planning your wedding, and your overall experience with the Venues, Hair & Makeup, Outfits, Decor Theme, and all of the other important details.
I had always dreamed of getting married outdoors near the water. Our two pieces of criteria when venue searching was that it would be along the water, and that having our dog would be able to be in all of our events. Once we visited the Ritz-Carlton resort in Amelia Island, FL it was a no-brainer.
Although we had 5 wedding events, I had a total of 8 outfits throughout the course of our wedding weekend. Every single piece was customized for me in Mumbai, except for what I wore the morning of my Grah Shanti, which was my mom's wedding sari that she had carefully preserved.
@GlamByRicha has been a close family friend of mine for years, so when it came to hair & makeup I knew I didn't want anyone else. She is so gifted at her art and she made me feel so beautiful with every look that she created. Myar Decor provided all of our florals and decor services; I wasn't a bride who had very specific visions in regards to decor but Mital worked with me so diligently, making sure no option went overlooked, and that I was comfortable with what she and her team were producing for us.
When I first met DesiBel Entertainment, our DJ team, at a wedding in Cancun in 2016 I promised myself that I wouldn't get married without them. Their saxophonist, Harshal Dave, is hands-down one of the most unique individuals I have ever met. Lastly, I cannot rave about Akbar Sayed Photography and Regal Palette Studio enough. Their work speaks for themselves and the amount of creativity and care that they put into their work is overwhelming. Nash and I were very blessed to be surrounded by teams of people with so much skill & patience.

How did you select your bridal lengha or wedding dress? Did you have a favorite color in mind?
Nash and I knew from the beginning that we were not a couple destined to wear the traditional red. One of the things I learned about Nash very early on is that one of his favorite colors is actually pink! Knowing that our wedding ceremony would be held outdoors, we envisioned pink & white as the perfect combination for our special day. At the same time, I wanted the embroidery of my dress to still be traditional and not overwhelmingly heavy, simply because of the fact that I knew I was going to be outdoors all morning. I also wanted the opportunity to re-purpose my wedding outfit and wear it to other functions, rather than have it hanging in my closet for the rest of my life.

What was the most enjoyable part of the planning process, and why?
During the 11 months of wedding planning, trying to plan my dream wedding while also respecting my parents wishes was certainly a challenge. However, when I reflect on the process....it was also the most enjoyable component. I got to spend so much time with them, learn so much about their innermost thoughts and visions, strengthen our communication, and really just become so much closer to them--something I didn't think was possible after having been living with them for the majority of my life. Many people would rather have their parents on the sidelines, without any interference or input from them. But I consider myself so lucky to have had the privilege to overcome these barriers together and find a united outcome with them. Having the chance to figure out how to be on the same team before moving out: that was the most enjoyable part of planning for me.

What did your guests particularly love about your Wedding?
Our wedding was nearly 4 months ago; but to this day, we are still hearing from our guests about how phenomenal their Ritz-Carlton experience was throughout our wedding weekend. The most exquisite factor that we continue to hear about was the food! The concoction of dishes, the presentation of each item, and the uniqueness of the menu for each of the 5 events. We are so lucky to have met Chef Jayshri of Ritz-Carlton and have her lead the culinary experience for our wedding guests.

Was there a really special moment in your wedding that constantly replays in your mind?
Absolutely. Our vidaai was the most memorable part of the entire weekend for me. Nash and I had decided on a 2-person scooter for our departure after the wedding. We knew this would be met with a lot of surprise as its not very traditional; but what we did not anticipate was how liberating our vidaai would really feel for us. Amelia Island is so unique, as it is surrounded by tunnels of trees as well as water....getting to drive off after the wedding, wrapped up around my new husband, wind in our faces with no one else around us, and being surrounded by this kind of beauty. It was truly the definition of "bliss".

Do you have any words of wisdom for Brides-To-Be?
If it won't matter 10 years from now, then don't waste time dwelling on it.

Don't miss the fabulous ending of this love story. So come back for it!

Welcome back, Maharanis! As promised, we are back with the conclusion of this beautiful wedding festivities but the beginning from the eternal and true love from Priya & Jason, our today's favorite couple. So let's go back to Playa del Carmen, Mexico. It will win you over with more than its magnificent natural landscapes and warm weather. The Barceló Maya Grand Resort was the ideal choice for their wedding celebration. Once the magnetic and traditional fusion wedding ended, an amazing hall at the outdoors from the perfect venue was prepared to host the fantastic reception. This place was entirely decorated by Latin Asia - Claudia Oyarzabal, who developed a magical environment for everyone. Not forgetting the magnificent and flowered arrangements and centerpieces prepared by Jccastillo Weddings, who took it to a higher level and contributed to the perfection of the night. The most extraordinary moment from the night arrived, and the glorious entrance from Priya and Jason dazzled everyone, our gorgeous Maharani wore a two pieces white dress that left everyone speechless. She took the right decision to trust her bridal fashion to Nazranaa, who made her look as taken out from a fairy tale. Everyone danced at the rhythm from Encore - DJ – Sean Singh, who made this an epic night. To conclude, you can't miss the gallery that we have for you today because our friends from Novia Mia Photography will make you relive this phenomenal celebration.

How did you meet your Groom and when did you know he was "the one"?
Jason and Priya first met through a mutual friend at a gathering in Westchester, NY. Jason immediately took notice of Priya and got to hear her talk a little bit about her story amongst friends, which would leave quite an impression on him. They would both see each other a couple more times but then Jason would not hear from Priya for at least 4 years. In the age of social media, leave it to Facebook to bring these two lovebirds back together. Priya saw Jason come up as a recommended contact on Facebook and decided to send him a friend request. Jason was thrilled, of course, and messaged Priya to see how she was doing and they began talking again (however, Priya wasn’t really looking for a boyfriend). They made plans to hangout and before they knew it, they were staying out late talking for hours daily. It did not take long for them to officially become a couple.

Share the scoop on your Proposal Story!
Jason knew very early on that Priya was going to be the woman with whom he was going to spend the rest of his life, if only she were to say yes. In August 2015, the Persauds wanted to head to Mexico for a family vacation. Jason saw this as a perfect opportunity to finally propose. The day everyone was leaving for Mexico, Jason and Priya’s sisters Tara and Divya were at the jewelry store rushing to get the ring ready to take on the trip. Jason gave the ring to Tara to transport to Mexico to avoid any mishaps at the airport that might ruin the surprise. At this time, Jason still had no idea how he was going to do the proposal. While touring the hills of Hualtulco, Jason found the perfect opportunity in front of a waterfall. He told the tour guide that when they were in front of the waterfall, the guide was to take a photo of Jason and Priya. When Jason gave the guide a thumbs up, the guide was instructed to begin recording while Jason got on bended knee and asked his beautiful girlfriend to be his bride. After a ton of tears, and thankfully a huge YES they officially became engaged!

Tell us how you went about planning your wedding, and your overall experience with the Venues, Hair & Makeup, Outfits, Decor Theme, and all of the other important details.
After dismissing the idea of having a backyard wedding, Priya and Jason met with a wedding planner that gave them the idea of having it in Mexico.  They loved this idea as Jason had proposed in Mexico and it seemed to be a be a great way to keep costs down as well as be sentimental.  After some research and travelling to the Cancun area to visit some venues, Jason and Priya finally narrowed it down to the Barcelo Maya Resort after meeting  their wedding coordinators Ivette and Abraham.

Priya and Jason made one more visit to the resort in March where they toured the giant Barcelo Maya complex (five resorts in one location!), planned their wedding events and met with their florist, decorator, makeup artist, and lighting technician.

While finding inexpensive solutions to make their wedding day memorable, Priya and Jason DIY'd their wedding invitations, programs and centerpieces.  They kept in contact with all their wedding vendors in Mexico through email and video chats. Although there were a few issues with communication, everything worked out in the end!

How did you select your bridal lengha or wedding dress? Did you have a favorite color in mind?
Priya had pictured herself in a traditional red bridal lengha since she was a little girl.  Her mother had gotten her a lengha in Malaysia while on vacation - but on a trip to Edison, NJ to look for the bridesmaids lenghas, Priya, her mother and sisters found a stunning, inexpensive lengha at Nazraana they could not pass up!

For her wedding dress, Priya, her family and some friends went shopping in Manhattan.  Priya knew she wanted a hi-lo dress - preferably with a detachable skirt to allow her to move with ease on the dance floor.  While shopping, her cousin Alea realized that a wedding dress was something she could make!  She immediately got to work, creating a pattern.  Priya and Alea made a few trips to the garment district in Manhattan to pick out fabrics and Alea spent countless hours. working tirelessly to cretae the perfect wedding dress for Priya.  The dress was more than Priya could have dreamed of and included a 5 tier tulle skirt with beaded sequin fabric and fully lined with silk, princess line dress made of patterned motif lace and silk and embroidered haute couture straps with 248 Swarovski crystals, 6.4 cts hydrothermal emeralds, and 1.9 ct central Opal.

That's right you read that correctly - *emeralds* and an *opal*!!

What was the most enjoyable part of the planning process, and why?
The most enjoyable part of the planning process for Priya and Jason was choreographing their first dance.  The couple practiced day in and day out, spending extra time together.  Their first dance incorporated both fast and slow songs, mixing a Broadway musical, electronic dance music and Bollywood.

Alea started Priya's dress in November and worked on it until hours before the wedding on June 28th.  During this time, Priya and Alea spent more time together than they had since they were kids.  Alea has been Priya's best friend since birth and the process of making the wedding dress brought them closer than ever and reminded Priya how lucky she was to have Alea as her "partner".

What did your guests particularly love about your Wedding?
Priya and Jason's guests loved the exotic setting of a beach in Mexico for a South Asian wedding, as well as some of the over-the-top features that were part of the 3 events - a light-up dance floor, the bride being carried in on a dholi, a tequila donkey, baarat on the beach, and the many choreographed Bollywood dances.

Priya wanted to stay true to her roots and not lose the connection to her Guyanese culture while in Mexico.  It was important to her to have a Guyanese DJ that she flew in from Queens, NY.  Priya also spent hours curating the perfect wedding playlist.  This decision paid off - the guests could not stop raving about the mix of American, soca, chutney and Bollywood music, both modern and classics, that were played!

All of Priya and Jason's family and friends stayed at the Barcelo Maya Grand Resort in Riviera Maya. When not celebrating the 3 events of the wedding, you could find the wedding guests in the pool drinking and partying!

Was there a really special moment in your wedding that constantly replays in your mind?
The 3 wedding events included a few choreographed dances to songs from Priya's childhood.  Priya's best friend of 25 years danced to "Choli Ke Peeche", her sisters to "Ghoomer" and "Hookah Bar", and her cousins to "Kay Sara Sara".  Priya and Jason's first dance included "Koi Ladki Hai" and her dance with her father was to "Mere Mehboob Mere Sanam".

Priya spent much of her childhood watching Bollywood music videos, practicing the dances with her friends and cousins in the living room.  Being a part of, and watching her loved ones dance to songs that hold so much significance to her was the most meaningful part of the wedding for her.

For events other than your ceremony, please tell us as much as you would like about the decor, style, dances, and all the special details.
One of the best parts of the wedding was choosing Novia Mia Photography to capture our beautiful day.  Led by Arturo, not only did they capture amazing shots of Jason and Priya at the resort, they also had a private "Trash the Dress" photoshoot at a cenote nearby the resort.  Arturo captured unique shots underwater and with a fairytale backdrop.

Do you have any words of wisdom for Brides-To-Be?
Many other brides gave me the same advice - during the wedding, don't stress about the little details and stay in the moment!  If not for that advice I think I would have been a little more stressed about the events going smoothly.  I would like to pass on those words of wisdom!

Anything else you want to tell us? We'd love to hear all about your other details! (jewelry, mehndi, venue, cake, bouquets, etc.)
When Priya was 17 years old, her life changed forever: she was in a terrible car accident, something that even medical professionals couldn’t predict the outcome of. Although she survived, she had to learn how to walk, eat, and speak again. Her right arm and face would never be the same (thankfully she's a lefty). Although she was scared, Priya was equally determined to recover and rebuild herself. With the love and faith of her family and friends, and putting one foot in front of the other every day, she was able to progress and recover past her injuries and even went on to graduate with her high school class.

Through her educational journey, Priya had several additional reconstructive surgeries, primarily on her face. It’s been a long road, with some bumps along the way.   Priya is proof that an open mind, full heart, and love of life can take anyone past their obstacles.

It is important for Priya to share her experience strength and hope about her identity as a burn survivor.  When Priya was 17 years old, her life changed forever: she was in a terrible car accident, something that even medical professionals couldn’t predict the outcome of. Cancun, Mexico Indian Wedding by Wildcolors by Abi

Welcome back, ladies! We are taking you back to Cancun, Mexico, for the second part of this magical love story between Serina & Neill. In a fantastic art-deco theme hall decorated by Alquimia Events, our beautiful Maharani Serina showed up looking splendid. There's no doubt that Erica Bogart Beauty, who took care of Serina's fashion needs, did an outstanding job. Every guest at the magical Hard Rock Cancun was speechless, admiring how the bride danced with her Raja Neill. Every single detail was perfectly well organized by Urvashi Mishra, Wedding & Event Planner, who successfully fulfilled our lovebird's desires for their wedding celebration. The talented work of Wildcolors by abi captured every detail, and each snap shows how this celebration was as elegant and impressive in equal parts. The gala turned into a real party and everyone had a blast night thanks to Encore Events DJ who were responsible for the music part! It was fantastic. Great music, exquisite food, emotional speeches, friends, family, and of course, a lot of love, all combined were the perfect ingredients for this fabulous wedding. We invite you to visit today's gallery so you can relive this enormous event.

How did you meet your Groom and when did you know he was "the one"?
I don't think there was ever really an "aha moment" of when I knew he was the one. Neill and I first met 14 years ago during a local Garba event. It was not exactly love at first site. Our relationship evolved constantly and we had even tried dating in the past, but it didn't exactly pan out the way we expected and we both realized maybe we would be better off as friends. In 2016, Neill couldn't hide his feelings anymore and explained how he had been feeling about me. It took a little while of dating again to see just how perfect we were together. He was my best friend, and we both knew everything about each other - the good, bad, and ugly - and not despite that, but because of it, taking the next steps in our relationship felt so natural. I feel like such a cheeseball when I say it, but it was always Neill.

Share the scoop on your Proposal Story!
I will be completely honest, Neill tried to plan everything as a surprise, but I saw it coming from a mile away. I am quite possibly the most annoying person to surprise. He ended up taking me on a trip to Utah and after all the incessant questioning, I pretty much figured out what was up. It was however some of the most beautiful scenery I have ever experienced. It was truly a winter wonderland.

How did you select your bridal lengha or wedding dress? Did you have a favorite color in mind?
When I was younger, I always envisioned myself as a modern, non-traditional bride. Color schemes of pastel or white were always in the back of my mind. As I got older, I saw the beauty in more traditional designs and patterns and was drawn to those as well. I think my bridal lengha embodied my personality perfectly. I ended up going with a subtle off-white base, with rich, gold and pearl handwork. Each border was an ode to each one of my parents and Jigya (the designer) beautifully fulfilled my wish of fitting in the names of my grandparents who have passed and could not be with us to celebrate. I decided to add a pop of my favorite color, a bold, emerald green with a traditional bandhni design with pearls and small mirror-work, to round out my dream of a modern, yet traditional bridal outfit.

What was the most enjoyable part of the planning process, and why?
My favorite parts of the planning process would be seeing it all come to fruition and all the feedback and reactions from your family and friends. All the sleepless nights trying to communicate with my designers in India, and countless hours researching and organizing every little detail is all worth it when you get to experience all your hard work with all of your loved ones.

Was there a really special moment in your wedding that constantly replays in your mind?
Something that was a truly unforgettable moment for me was walking down the aisle. I think it is something that every little girl thinks about growing up and to be actually in the moment, it is kind of surreal. For me personally, I did not know how my wedding would be. Being a child of divorced parents is not anything new for most brides in the US. But, in our culture and "society", it is rarely seen that both sides come together for times like this. Growing up, I never knew how exactly my wedding would pan out. Would everyone really be able to work through their differences? How would I get everyone in the same room without it being awkward? However, during our engagement and wedding planning, all four of my parents (both being remarried), worked seamlessly together and were honestly one of the biggest support systems as a whole for me. As I walked down the aisle, I saw not only my future husband, but all four of my parents and siblings, standing there waiting for me. It was honestly one of the most emotional moments of my life.

Do you have any words of wisdom for Brides-To-Be?
The worst thing I did was over-analyze things I had no control over. Plan the heck out of your wedding ahead of time, and as you get closer --- LET. GO. (Sidenote: use Google docs which auto-saves so you don't lose your ENTIRE mailing list that took a week to complete because your laptop decided to restart before saving.)

Cancun, Mexico Indian Wedding by Wildcolors by Abi

Good morning, Maharanis! Today you will be dazzled by the wedding festivities of Serina & Neill thanks to the magnificent captures from Wildcolors by abi. Yes, I know this union sounds familiar, previously we showcased this couple's fantastic film also created by this incredible team and that you can relive here. In this first photo installment, we are presenting the wedding ceremony festivities. There was no better place to perform such a beautiful event than the exclusive and monumental Hard Rock Cancun. Since we had a glimpse of the well-designed invitations created by The Royal Collection, we knew that this would be a memorable event. And we were not mistaken as everything was excellent organized and designed by the fantastic talent from Urvashi Mishra, Wedding & Event Planner. Who worked side by side with Alquimia Events to make all of the events look fantastic. An outstanding job! Our beautiful maharani had a charming and dazzling flair for this occasion thanks to the syle of Erica Bogart Beauty, who took care of Serina's perfect bridal look. The hardest part of a destination wedding is orchestrating a massive trip for all family and friends to your event. However, for Serina & Neill, this was super easy thanks to Shaadi Destinations, who took care of all the travel needs. If you want to relive this wonderful love story visit today's gallery, I bet you will be inspired!
